Since 1996 the town of Saint-Amand-Montrond has had the label Ville et Métiers d’Art. This stamp of quality is given by the association of the same name to towns that work for the development and the popularization of artistic crafts. It is a guarantee of a true policy in this field. Regularly members of the association have to stand in front of a jury to demonstrate that they are still worthy of this stamp and that in order to preserve the quality. At present, 42 French towns are members of the association going from very small town to huge metropolis. In the future the association should get a European dimension welcoming foreign towns.
